Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How Are Vehicles Selected?
We source vehicles for films. We do not make the final decision on which vehicles are selected for the film. This is how the process works.
- The production provides us a list of vehicles it needs. Some are specific, but most are generic to a time period.
- We source that list, ideally with local vehicles. Local vehicles are ideal because:
- It keeps costs lower for the filmmakers.
- It contributes to our local economy.
- The filmmakers review the list we provide and select the vehicles based on the visual and/or story needs of the scenes.
- For this reason, we typically try to provide filmmakers with as vehicles as possible to give them a wide selection to build the scene.
- As a result, in most cases, no one provider is the sole source of vehicles or, when needed, the animals that pull them.
- We work with the vehicle owners to do the following:
- Agree on rental rates.
- Agree on schedule.
- Organize delivery of the vehicles to and from set.
- Ensure your vehicle is treated well while in use by the filmmakers.
What condition do the vehicles need to be in?
Vehicles will appear in street scenes. So, they need to appear to be fully functional, even if they are not. Ideally, they should look like standard consumer versions of the vehicles of the era, not custom street rods or anything like that.
Will my vehicle be driven? If so, by whom?
On Set: If a vehicle is operational, it will almost certainly be driven, at a mimumum, to place it the scene for filming. In this event
On Camera: It depends on the scene. In most scenes, we anticipate the vehicles will staged as parked vehicles, with perhaps a few vehicles in motion as traffic.
Who Are Your Drivers? — In most cases, drivers will be from our Transportation crew, all of whom are licensed driver. If your vehicle is selected as a “Hero car”, to be driven by actors, the actors will be licensed drivers.
Can I drive my vehicle in the film? — If you do not want your vehicle driven or require only you drive the vehicle, please indicate that when sending in photos. In the event your vehicle is selected for the film, we will make efforts to acommodate you or, if needed, select another vehicle.
Will I Be Paid? If so, How Much?
Yes. Rental rates depend on the vehicle and its planned use. If your vehicle is selected for the film, you will be provided with a contract indicating our intended use of the vehicle and the rate we are offering for that use.
Do I need special insurance?
No. Your vehicle is insured by the production while in use, ensuring protection against damage. Although every precautions is taken to avoid claims, your vehicle is covered in case of an incident.
As part of the agreement with the production, you will need to provide documentation detailing the value of the vehicles, equipment or animals you are providing to the production.
